How weird is hypnotherapy, anyway?

I’M NOT A SWIVEL-EYED LOON, honest. I’m a people person, which is why I enjoy being a hypnotherapist, but I know some people are wary of being subjected to weird rituals or of losing control in a session. So let’s set the record straight – I don’t do anything to you with hypnosis, I help you make the changes you need in hypnosis, or trance-like state. Big difference!

Trance is a very natural state – we go in and out many times each day. Every time you drive somewhere familiar but can’t remember the journey, or lose yourself in a great film, or someone speaks to you and you say ‘oh, sorry, I was miles away,’ … that’s a trance-like state of relaxed hyper-focus. It’s pleasant! How do I induce this state in a session? There are no swinging watches or googly eyes in my practice … sorry to disappoint! I just drone on for a very, very long time, using careful patterns of language to help you relax and welcome positive suggestions, which your subconscious can then work on to make a reality. It’s powerful stuff, but you’re fully aware all the time, and if I say anything that’s not helpful to you your brain will reject it, just as it does in your day-to-day life. In my experience individuals can feel a little 'spaced out' afterwards, but that only lasts a few minutes and they soon return to a normal, but less stressed, state.

Of course, the hypno is only half of hypnotherapy, and before you relax on the couch we can explore your best hopes for the future, and what that will mean for you.

Why not try it yourself? As part of our journey together I offer a free, no-commitment, no-pressure initial consultation where we can discuss what you’d like to change in your life. I’ll give you a short explanation of how the brain works (which some people find a powerful first step in challenging unhelpful thoughts and behaviours), then you can relax back and enjoy a short taster hypnosis session. I’ll also give you a free MP3, so you can continue relaxing in your own time!

Looking forward to hearing from you …
