Reasons to be cheerful ... :D

IT’S NO SURPRISE that I love my job, but people sometimes ask how I cope with the challenges it presents. It’s true that I do work with people who need help, generally after a long while of trying to cope on their own, or of trying other therapies. They might want to move on from years of trauma, anxiety and depression; or feel stuck in a set of circumstances they can see no way out of. They might have a specific challenge, such as wanting to manage their weight. I say that, wherever they start from, they want to feel better, which is a wonderful base for a therapeutic relationship! So I thought I’d share some of the moments which make Solution Focused Hypnotherapy so rewarding:
• That moment when a client understands why they are reacting and behaving the way they are, and, perhaps after years of struggling, realises that they CAN take control of their life again, without any more pain or drama; • That moment when a client reframes the challenges they have faced, either recently or many years previously, and understands the wisdom and perspective they have gained from them, rather than letting them limit their present or shackle their future. When they start to recognise themselves as the unique, resourceful individuals that they truly are; • That glorious moment when I start the trance section and see all the pain, and anxiety, and stress, simply drop from the client’s face. Perhaps for the first time in many, many years, they have finally ‘switched off’. • The wonderful smiles I get when people come out of trance! … what’s not to like?! Usually these moments happen quite soon on our therapeutic journey, and we can then work together to consolidate these new ways of thinking and build new neural pathways in hypnosis - to make them feel like the most natural changes in the world. I am privileged to meet all manner of fascinating, exceptional individuals who, for whatever reason, need someone alongside them for a while – and there’s nothing quite like making someone feel so much better!
