'It's not for me, I'd never switch off ...'
… well, I won’t promise! But the process of hypnosis is very different to those nights when you’re trying to nod off and your brain runs amok. Taking you into trance is methodical, and carefully wrapped inside the words I speak and pictures I paint are patterns and rhythms working hard to create focus, engage the subconscious and suspend your critical faculty, so you can gain the maximum benefit from your session. Plus, I do drone on for a very long time! My journey into hypnotherapy started as a client, and I vividly remember beginning sessions thinking ‘no, it won’t work this time’ before those delicious sensations of deep relaxation would start and I would slide into trance again. It’s worth mentioning, too, that the more familiar you become with the process, the easier it becomes. Once you know where you’re going, the keener your brain is to get there! It’s so rewarding to see the stress drop from my clients’ faces as they sink down, and I’m always fascinated by people’s reactions – giggles, twitches, moments of emotional release, tingles, sometimes even sensations of levitation. All of these responses are entirely normal.
